| i really don't understand why people follow religions that to me diminish the right to free willfor example certain religions demand that women in particular dress a certain way, and i wonder what is religion to tell them they should do so. why do they not just dress how they choose?another example is not being able to marry someone who is from another religion. why shouldn't we be able to marry whoever we love? what if everybody has one soul mate in life and theirs happens to be someone from another religion, whats the logic in stopping them from being together?none of it makes sense to me that people choose to act a certain way because their religion tells them to. why do they not live life for themselves and not for some set of ancient rules which religion sets out?fair enough use religion as a guide on how to be a good, moral person, but don't let it determine the way you live your life.

| Yes, there is a need. Certain people need a system of imaginary rules to guide them through life because they just plain don't know how to do it themselves. These people either refuse to think, can't think, or just don't know how to think about their place in the world in a critical way without someone telling them how.

| Sure there is a need for religion. Religion answers questions about cosmic purpose. Why are we here? What is the purpose of this Universe? Why is the pain, evil, and hardship in the world? Science cannot answer any of these questions because the ideas which answer them cannot be scientifically tested.

| Well unfortuantely, we are not just one "society". Even within your society there are socio-economic, political and religious factions all of whom will either have reasons for requiring faith or no reason for it.
