When adults hear 10 year olds talking about Santa Claus as if he were real, they feel obliged to tell them he doesn't exist. Same principle applies.

I think that your question is unfairly categorizing all athiests into a group of people who want to constantly put down religion. I'm an athiest and am not this way at all. In fact, religion and theology has always been *very* interesting to me. I just choose not to follow it. I answer questions respectfully, intelligently and from a different point of view. Never will you catch me disrespecting members of any other religion (though I do have a few choice words about the Westboro Baptist Church).
