Default Infant Car seat installation Question?

Hello,I'm expecting my first child in a couple of months(!!) and I have been tinkering with the installation of the infant car seat and base in the back of my truck. My truck is outfitted with LATCH but the base of our MaxiCosi Mico and our Chicco Keyfit30 both extend beyond the end of the seat by a good 4 to 5 inches. Does this pose a safety issue having the base extend beyond the seat cushion? Thanks

I'm not really sure but a great way to make sure your seat is safe is to call your local fire dept. and ask if and when they will have a car seat check day. 90% of the fire dept have a special days you can bring your car in and they'll make sure your seat is properly installed for you.

I would call the fire dept b 4 going. I went to my local fire dept and some are told they are not allowed to do this for liability purposes. I guess that is the world we live in today (everyone looking to sue someone) Anyway, I asked a police officer too, but he could not tell me either. This is a great question! I will check back to see answers as I am curious who can tell us if our children are safe. This does not sound very safe to me personally, but maybe your pediatrician would know who you could call to find out?? Luckily I went to another fire dept location and they helped me.
