I am getting very annoyed. Every day, my family keeps on telling me to shut up. I get told that phrase so much, I'm starting to get outraged hearing the phrase being said toward me! It's even starting to spread to folks outside my family! I don't speak too much, but sometimes I get too loud that they say that offending phrase to me, especially my grandma, who hates noise and profanity. They keep on saying that even though I know that I'm not speaking loud. How can I stop them from saying that phrase? Because I hate that phrase (unless I'm giving it to others, and when it's not being said between me and someone else), and they don't know any safer alternatives to that phrase!

dont talk around them. no offence but if ur contantly being told to shut up, it means ur talking to much and should take their dvice. but if it offends you that much. next time someone tells you that, ask them if they could say it nicer.

RaGS sez : I'm not a psychologist, and I don't even play one on TV, but please let me understand this correctly. You hate the phrase "shut up" except when you're saying it to someone else. Right? Well, why don't you listen to your family, take their advice, and quit running your mouth. Maybe when you do, they won't feel like they have to keep telling you!
