| i don't think it's fair for either one to "decide" all on their own...after all, you're BOTH going to be parents to this child... anyway, i can relate to what you're going through....we knew we were having a boy, so "all" we had to do was come up with ONE name...but we fought about it like crazy! - he wanted to name him after HIMSELF, lol - while i don't particularly love nor hate his name (Daniel), i sure didn't want to have to go around calling them "Senior" and "Junior", "Dan" and "Danny", or "Big Dan" and "Llittle Dan", etc...then, he decided he liked the name Michael...while i don't hate the name Michael, it was *way" too common for my taste - plus, my brother-in-law's name is Michael, and we're a close family - so, no thanks on that one, either, lol.*I* had wanted to name him Kevin or David, but those just so happened to be the names of his two best friends! - and yet, i'd picked those out YEARS before i ever met him!anyway, finally, we agreed that we'd each write out a list of *20* names we liked that weren't any of the ones above, and then we'd each "have" to choose 3 names off each other's lists, to narrow it down...(and then fight some more?!)... well, lo and behold, we didn't need to do that - as it turned out, we *both* happened to put Nicholas on our list - problem solved!

| It should be a joint decision, however, if it comes down to both of you not being able to agree and liking one particular name each, the name you chose should go as a middle name.

| I say both but my parents took turns. My mother named me Carolee (after grandmother Carol-ann and she liked lee)and my father named my sister Fiona (after his uni lecturer). My mother still hates the name he picked 20 years later, she can just tollerate the nickname but it suits her to a tee..very stubbon. I hate the name my mother gave me hence I changed it. Talk it through, put a short list on the fridge for a week and see how they sit with you both. I find it hard going through baby name books, they all seem to sound odd after a while. You should come to an agreement, or you could always name the baby after the place it was concieved.
