Default Why are they called "baby names"?

When a baby is to be named people ask is blah blah a good baby name?? If all goes well im assuming the baby will grow into a man or woman so it wont be a baby name once they're an adult. So why are they called baby names?? Its kind of annoying. Anyone named anything was once baby so doesnt that make all names good "baby names"??So far the best explanation has been given by Tish, all of the other answers are just as annoying as the term "baby names"

people say baby name as in, not a dog, cat, fish, bunny name. it would sound odd to say ""do you like the name Daniel for my grown up son who isn't born yet??"it's just a figure of speech :-)but i agree, it's important to make sure the name will fit an adult and not just a baby!

I think just because at the time you name it, it is a baby. But I see your point. Many parents though don't seem to get the fact that the name will still be in place when the "cute little baby" is 40, and give them ridiculous names!
